Title:

Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Safe and Sound Initiative Grant.  (Police Department)

 

Analysis:

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and expend funding from the Safe and Sound Program in the amount of $121,759  with a city share of $56,759 and a grantor share of $65,000.  The purpose of the project is to provide an expanded collaboration with Safe and Sound Program and the Safe Places to reinforce positive interactions between police and youth.  

  

Body:

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Safe and Sound Program for an Safe and Sound Initiative Grant; and

 

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 1/01/2002 to 12/31/2002 would cost $121,759 of which $56,759 (47%) would be provided by the city and $65,000 (53%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the Safe and Sound program is authorized and that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

 

1.                     Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2002 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: "Safe and Sound Initiative":

2.                     Create the necessary Grant and Aid Project/Grant and Project/Grant levels; budget against these Project/Grant values the amount required under the grant agreement;

 

3.  Establish the necessary City Share Project Values; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:

 

1.                     Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date;

 

2.                     Transfer funds within the project budget as long as the amount expended for each specific purpose does not exceed the amount authorized by the budget by 10 percent.
