Title

Substitute resolution assigning the honorary street name, “Tillie Ann Boyles,” to the segment of North 41st Street from West Florist Avenue to the cul-de-sac approximately one block north of West Florist Avenue in the 1st Aldermanic District.

 

Analysis

This resolution assigns the honorary street name, “Tillie Ann Boyles,” to the segment of North 41st Street from West Florist Avenue to the cul-de-sac approximately one block north of West Florist Avenue in the 1st Aldermanic District.

 

Body

Whereas, “Mrs. Tillie,” Tillie Ann Boyles, served as a role model for nearly 20 years to the residents of the Berryland community of Milwaukee exemplifying the finest qualities of motherhood, grand-motherhood, caring and friendship; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Tillie, a caregiver by vocation, cared deeply not only for her children, grandchildren and family, but for neighbors in need: and

 

Whereas, There was always space at Mrs. Tillie’s table for one more family member, or friend, or friend of a friend, or person in need; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Tillie made it her business to feed those less fortunate by purchasing and distributing turkeys each year to neighbors struggling to put food on their tables; and

 

Whereas, Mrs. Tillie was a fixture for nearly 20 years on her porch offering guidance and advice, inspiring and comforting whoever passed by with her loving spirituality and resolute faith; and

 

Whereas, North 41st Street north of West Florist Avenue was the home of Mrs. Tillie for almost 20 years and where she touched the lives of so many in the neighborhood; and

 

Whereas, Section 113-3 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances provides a procedure for assigning honorary street names and s. 113-3-6 specifies criteria for the using the names of individuals when assigning honorary street names; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council finds the honorary naming of the segment of North 41st Street from West Florist Avenue to the cul-de-sac approximately one block north of West Florist Avenue as “Tillie Ann Boyles” meets the code criteria; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the honorary name of “Tillie Ann Boyles” be assigned to the segment of North 41st Street from West Florist Avenue to the cul-de-sac approximately one block north of West Florist Avenue; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That signage for this honorary street naming comply with design specifications set by the Department of Public Works; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the petitioner has requested suitable honorary street naming signage be fabricated and installed by the Department of Public Works at a cost to be paid in full by petitioner; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall fabricate and install signage for this honorary street naming within 90 days of adoption of this resolution in compliance with s. 113-3; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That petitioner shall notify the Department of Public Works if and when signage for this honorary street naming needs to be replaced and petitioner will fully reimburse the City for any such replacement.
