Title

Substitute resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into a month-to-month lease agreement with CPS for the operation of a City owned parking lot located at 1231 N. Broadway until such time as the property is transferred to new ownership.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works to enter into a month-to-month lease agreement to manage a City owned parking lot located at 1231 N Broadway.

Body

Whereas, Because of the 1989 acquisition by the City of Milwaukee of a parcel of real estate leased by the Marine Bank Services Corporation, subsequently doing business as Bank One, for employee and visitor parking, the City of Milwaukee was obligated to provide alternative leased parking to the Corporation; and

Whereas, The property that was leased to the Corporation is a City-owned parking lot located at 1231 N. Broadway; and

Whereas, The parking lot has been managed for the Corporation by Central Parking Systems (CPS); and

Whereas, The Corporation has notified the City that it wishes to terminate its leased use of the premises as of January 1, 2002; and

Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee has notified the Department of Public Works that a buyer has been found for this lot and it is scheduled to be developed no later than the end of 2002; and

Whereas, Section 309-61-1-b of the Milwaukee Code requires that all contracts for managing non-permit, non-metered surface parking lots be for a minimum of one year with up to four one-year extensions allowed; and

Whereas, In an effort to minimize disruption to residents and businesses parking in this lot, The Department of Public Works would like to enter into a month-to-month agreement with Central Parking Systems to continue to manage this lot until the time of the sale; and

Whereas, The month to month agreement shall reflect the same financial terms under which the lot was leased to the Corporation and the same conditions under which other City lots are managed; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is authorized to enter into a month-to-month lease agreement with Central Parking Systems to manage the City owned parking lot located at 1231 N. Broadway, and, be it

Further Resolved, That the month-to-month shall reflect the terms and conditions of the Agreement attached to this file.
