Title

Resolution transferring departmental budget authority for the previously awarded 2020 - 2023 Milwaukee Safer Communities for Youth Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women.

 

Analysis

The City previously accepted a 2020-23 Safer Communities for Youth Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to mobilize a response team to guide and bolster this project, providing effective crisis intervention and direct services to youth victims to support safety and healing from trauma. The grant was extended to end September 30, 2024 in fall of 2023. This resolution authorizes the City Comptroller to transfer the remaining balance as of December 31, 2023 in expenditure authority from that grant from the Health Department to the Department of Administration, which will carry out the purpose of the grant.

 

Body

Whereas, On November 24, 2020, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 200929, accepting and funding the 2020 - 2023 Milwaukee Safer Communities for Youth Program grant in the amount of $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women to mobilize a response team to guide and bolster this project, providing effective crisis intervention and direct services to youth victims to support safety and healing from trauma; and

 

Whereas, the Office of Violence Prevention, which manages this grant-funded program will be organizationally transferred from the Health Department to the Department of Administration in January of 2024; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer budget authority equal to the remaining balance as of December 31, 2023 from the Milwaukee Safer Communities for Youth grant to the Department of Administration to provide a response team to guide and bolster this project, providing effective crisis intervention and direct services to youth victims to support safety and healing from trauma; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer the balance remaining as of December 31, 2023 within the Project/Grant Parent for the project titled Milwaukee Safer Communities for Youth from the Health Department to the Department of Administration.
