This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to work with the Police Department to establish an appropriate scope of work for a consultant to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the City’s crash statistics and establish tools, such as predictive modeling, that would help City officials target priority locations to reduce fatalities and severe injuries resulting from traffic crashes. The Department of Public Works shall provide a draft scope of work to the Common Council within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.

Whereas, The 2021 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 200001 on November 24, 2020; and
Whereas, Amendment 34A to the 2021 Budget placed a footnote in the Budget stating, “The Department of Public Works is to work with the Police Department to establish an appropriate scope of work for a consultant to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the City’s crash statistics and establish tools, such as predictive modeling, that would help City officials target priority locations to reduce fatalities and severe injuries resulting from traffic crashes; and
Whereas, Despite residents driving less due to the COVID-19 pandemic, traffic deaths have increased by 50 percent in Milwaukee in 2020; and
Whereas, An analysis of crash data from an outside expert would be beneficial in setting priorities for physical improvements and locations for intervention; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works shall work with the Police Department to establish an appropriate scope of work for a consultant to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the City’s crash statistics and establish tools, such as predictive modeling, that would help City officials target priority locations to reduce fatalities and severe injuries resulting from traffic crashes; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall provide a draft scope of work to the Common Council within 90 days of adoption of this resolution.
