Title
Resolution relating to the acceptance of private contributions for improvements to the Lewis Playfield Play Area in the 14th Aldermanic District in the City of Milwaukee.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services to accept up to $50,000 in private contributions and material for the reconstruction of the City of Milwaukee's Lewis Playfield Play Area.
 
Body
Whereas, The Lewis Playfield Play Area has been scheduled for renovation to bring the equipment into compliance with current guidelines; and
 
Whereas, The neighborhood, in the vicinity of the Lewis Playfield Play Area, is interested in working with the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services to redevelop the play area in a manner that would better serve the neighborhood's needs; and
 
Whereas, The Friends of Lewis Playfield Committee has committed to raising funds and working with the neighborhood constituents in developing a plan that has been included in the final redevelopment of Lewis Playfield Play Area to improve the quality of life in the area; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services estimates the total cost of upgrading the Lewis Playfield Play Area, including removal of the existing asphalt playground, walks, and children's play equipment, installation of new play equipment, benches, walks, and landscaping to be $166,000; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Public works - Buildings and Fleet Services, in its 2005 Recreational Facilities Capital Improvement Program, has budgeted $84,800 for this project; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Public works - Buildings and Fleet Services is not authorized to accept private contributions for improvements to the Lewis Playfield Play Area; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services is hereby authorized to accept private contributions and material for the improvements to the Lewis Playfield Play Area in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is hereby authorized and directed to establish a special account within the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services budget for the expenditure of the contribution; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the 2005 Special Purpose Account for Contributions, 0001-2110-0001-D001-006300 and the Estimated Revenue Account for Contributions, 0001-9990-0001-09850 to the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services special account 0001-5450-0001-D543-006300 and the Department of Public Works - Buildings and Fleet Services estimated revenue account 0001-5010-0001-009850, to be established by the City Comptroller, up to the amount of $50,000.00.
