This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a Domestic Preparedness Equipment Support Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs in the amount of $200,000. The purpose of the grant is to provide equipment for first responders to safely and effectively mitigate potential acts of domestic terrorism.
 
 
BODY:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.007 the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs for a Domestic Preparedness Equipment Support Program Grant; and
 
Whereas, The operation of this grant program from March 1, 2000 to February 28, 2001 would cost $200,000 of which $0 would be provided by the city and $200,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the U. S. Department of Justice is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
 
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2000 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project titled: Domestic Preparedness Equipment Support Program Grant:

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:
 
1. Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date;
 
2. Expend from the 2000 grant budget funds for specific items of equipment.
