Analysis
This resolution appropriates $10,000 from the 2009 Economic Development Committee Special Purpose Account to the Airport Gateway Business Association (AGBA) for economic development and job creation activities. The funds will be matched by an equal sum from AGBA.
Body
Whereas, The Economic Development Committee Fund is used for promoting the City’s economic development programs and job creation activities; and
Whereas, The Airport Gateway Business Association plays a vital role in supporting the City’s economic development and job creation activities by providing leadership in planning, promoting, and developing the vitality of the area around the General Mitchell International Airport and by providing crucial technical services for capacity growth to its members; and
Whereas, Discussions with this organization have been ongoing and have concentrated on economic development and job creation throughout the area the organization serves; and
Whereas, The Airport Gateway Business Association is exploring partnerships between the Port of Milwaukee, General Mitchell International Airport, railways, and trucking companies to increase the export of goods; and
Whereas, The Airport Gateway Business Association, through its leadership role with the Airport Area Economic Development Task Force, is attempting to utilize the airport as an economic engine for Southeastern Wisconsin and the entire state and to make Milwaukee an aerotropolis, an emerging concept in the global economy; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that $10,000 is appropriated from the 2009 Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account, 0001-1310-S123-006300, to the Airport Gateway Business Association to support economic development and job creation activities by providing leadership in planning, promoting, and developing the vitality of the area around the General Mitchell International Airport; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the funds appropriated to this organization shall not be used for staffing purposes; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Airport Gateway Business Association shall submit proof of matching funds before receiving the $10,000; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the organization shall submit a report to the Common Council by December 31, 2009, evaluating the effectiveness of its economic development and job creation activities; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the appropriate City officials are directed to negotiate and enter into an agreement with the Airport Gateway Business Association for the purpose of accepting City funds to be used for economic development and job creation activities.
