This resolution authorizes and directs the appropriate City officials to transfer $130,000 from the Development Fund Account to a new subaccount. The funds will be used to share the cost of public way improvements in the vicinity of St. Joseph's Hospital.

BODY:

Whereas, The 2000 City budget provides for the Development Fund; and

 

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee ("City") has an ongoing commitment to the revitalization of neighborhood commercial areas; and

 

Whereas, St. Joseph's Hospital ("St. Joe's") opened in Milwaukee in 1884; and

 

Whereas, St. Joe's has operated at its current location since 1930; and

 

Whereas, St. Joe's has invested more than $16 million in recent years in new development, including a new medical clinic and a civic park open to the neighborhood; and

 

Whereas, St. Joe's has consistently supported local initiatives, community-based organizations, and diverse religious groups in their endeavors; and

 

Whereas, These public way improvements will greatly enhance the many St. Joe's neighborhood investments; and

 

Whereas, Private funds will equal or exceed the amount of City funds for this project; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer the sum of $130,000 from the Development Fund Account No. 0339-9990-UR03390000 to Account No. 0339-1910-UR03390000 following the City Attorney's determination as to the taxability or nontaxability of the specific borrowing required under this resolution; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller, in conjunction with the Commissioner of the Department of City Development, is authorized and directed to establish any and all subaccounts in accord with generally accepted accounting practices and the City guidelines necessary to maintain the fiscal control for public way improvements in the vicinity of St. Joseph's Hospital; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That all City officials, departments, boards and commissions are authorized and directed to assist and cooperate with this project.
