Title

Resolution declaring the Department of Public Works parking lot at 1335 North 12th Street as surplus to municipal needs and authorizing acceptance of an unsolicited offer to purchase from Vliet Street Lofts, LLC, in the 4th Aldermanic District.

Analysis

Authorization declaring the parking lot at 1335 North 12th Street surplus to municipal needs and sale of property to the conditions in a Land Disposition Report pursuant to Sections 304-49-3-b-1 and 304-49-6, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances.

Body

Whereas, The Department of Public Works (”DPW”) notified the Department of City Development (“DCD”) that the parking lot is underutilized and will be decommissioned as a parking lot and desires DCD to manage the disposition of the lot at 1335 North 12th Street (the “Property”); and

 

Whereas, DCD received an unsolicited offer to purchase from Vliet Street Lofts, LLC to acquire Property and maintain it as a parking lot to serve as off-site parking for its development at 1220 West Vliet Street, as summarized in Land Disposition report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and

 

Whereas, On April 27, 2026, the City Plan Commission (“CPC”) approved declaring the Property as surplus to municipal needs; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the DPW parking lot at 1335 North 12th Street is declared surplus to municipal needs; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of DCD, or designee, is authorized to accept, on behalf of the City, the offer to purchase from Vliet Street Lofts, LLC and to close the transaction according to the terms summarized in the Land Disposition Report; and be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of DCD or its designee may execute offers, deeds, release any deed restrictions that inhibit transfer of properties and execute other legal documents on behalf of the City of Milwaukee and to close the transactions according to the terms of the Land Disposition Report; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That at closing, subtracted from the sale proceeds and retained by the City, will be sales expenses and fees incurred. Retained funds will be distributed between the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee for sales expenses and a 30 percent disposition fee, with the remaining proceeds credited to the DPW Parking Fund.
