Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works and the Comptroller to amend the agreement previously authorized by Common Council File Number 061401, which authorized the Commissioner of Public Works and the Comptroller to enter into a funding agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for installation of street lighting improvements and traffic signal and sign modifications with the streetscaping of West Greenfield Avenue from South Cesar E. Chavez Drive to South Layton Boulevard in the 8th and 12th Aldermanic Districts.  Due to the increased costs of aluminum and copper materials, the estimated costs for this lighting portion have increased $39,963.19 ($7,992.63 City Share/$31,970.56 Grantor share)or 17.05 percent to $274,386.95 the city share of this cost is $54,877.39 or 20 percent and $219,509.56 or 80 percent State/Federal share.

Body

Whereas, The Common Council has previously approved File Number 061401, which authorized the Commissioner of Public Works and the Comptroller to enter into a funding agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) for installation of street lighting improvements and traffic signal and sign modifications with the streetscaping of West Greenfield Avenue from South Cesar E. Chavez Drive to South Layton Boulevard; and

 

Whereas, Costs for materials used for construction of this project which contain aluminum or copper have significantly increased; and

 

Whereas, The revised estimated cost is $274,386.95, an increase of $39,963.19 or 17.05% over the original estimated cost of $234,423.76 for the installation of street lighting improvements and traffic signal and sign modifications; and

 

Whereas, The revised total cost of street lighting and traffic control improvements included in this streetscape project is $274,386.95, of which 80% or $219,509.56 is funded through WISDOT and 20% or $54,877.39 is funded by the City; and

 

Whereas, The increased costs for this project are greater than ten percent over the amount preciously authorized, which requires further approval by the Common Council; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works and Comptroller are authorized to amend the funding agreement with WISDOT for the installation of street lighting improvements and traffic signal and sign modifications with the streetscaping of West Greenfield Avenue from South Cesar E. Chavez Drive to South Layton Boulevard based on a predetermined estimate, a copy of which is attached to this resolution, and is incorporated into this resolution as though set forth in full; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That upon approval of this contract, that the Commissioner of Public Works is directed to install and modify permanent street lighting facilities and traffic signal and sign modifications in conjunction with the streetscaping of West Greenfield Avenue from South Cesar E. Chavez Drive to South Layton Boulevard; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That upon approval of this contract, the City Comptroller is hereby authorized to transfer to these accounts the additional amount required under the agreement and City accounting policy, but not to exceed a ten percent increase of the total amounts reserved for the grantor’s share and local share or $5,000, whichever is greater as follows:
