Analysis

Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to execute an Agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District regarding the Kinnickinnic River Flood Management Project, in the 12^th Aldermanic District. The project will take place in the area abutting the Kinnickinnic River between South 13^th and South 16^th Streets and in a section of Pulaski Park located between South 16^th Street and West Windlake Avenue.

Body

Whereas, The area around the Kinnickinnic River between South 6^th and South 16^th Streets is prone to and has suffered repeated flood damages; and

Whereas, To reduce the risk of future flooding, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is undertaking the Kinnickinnic River Flood Management Project (Project) for an area abutting the Kinnickinnic River between South 13^th and South 16^th Streets and in a section of Pulaski Park located between South 16^th Street and West Windlake Avenue; and

Whereas, As part of the Project, MMSD has acquired and razed numerous residential structures in said areas to expand and replace the existing concrete-lined channel with a more naturalized channel design; and

Whereas, The Project also involves alterations to the channel below the Cleveland Avenue Bridge to allow increased flows to pass under the bridge; and

Whereas, The Project also consists of removal and relocation of sewers and a water main, street lighting facilities and concrete curb and gutter, pavement and sidewalks in said areas; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee desires to cooperate with MMSD to facilitate implementation of the Project; and

Whereas, MMSD has drafted an Agreement establishing the respective duties and responsibilities of the City and of the MMSD necessary for the implementation of the Project; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to sign the Agreement, said Agreement being attached to this Common Council Resolution File Number ----171561 in substantially the same form and substance as submitted, and to effectuate the intent of this resolution and incorporated in this resolution by reference as though set forth in full; and, be it.

Further Resolved, That any work which may be necessary as a result of execution of the Agreement that may require financial consideration from the City will be brought forth for Common Council consideration and approval.
