This resolution approves the Amendment to the Relocation Plan for the North 3rd Street - Garfield to North Avenue Redevelopment Project Area prepared by the Department of City Development pursuant to Chapter 32.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes and in accordance with the Department of Commerce guidelines.

BODY:

Whereas, The Common Council of the City of Milwaukee ("Council") approved the Redevelopment Plan for the North 3rd Street - Garfield to North Avenue Redevelopment Project Area on May 17, 1993, by adoption of Common Council File No. 82-2096-a and the associated Relocation Plan on June 14, 1983 by adoption of Common Council File No. 83-221; and

 

Whereas, On May 3, 1993, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee ("Authority") adopted Resolution No. 8155, amending said Redevelopment Plan to designate 2220 North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive for acquisition, which will result in the acquisition of private property and the displacement of residential, business, and nonprofit occupants; and

 

Whereas, The Authority cannot proceed with land acquisition activities until the Wisconsin Department of Commerce approves a Relocation Plan for the residential, business, and nonprofit occupants expected to be displaced, as required by Chapter 32.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes; and

 

Whereas, Said Relocation Plan must be submitted to and approved by the Council as required by Chapter 66.431(10) of the Wisconsin Statutes; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Amendment to the Relocation Plan prepared by the Department of City Development and entitled "North 3rd Street - Garfield to North Avenue Redevelopment Project Relocation Plan" is herewith found to:

 

1. Formulate a feasible method for relocating the residential, business, and nonprofit occupants to be displaced from areas that are designated for clearance and redevelopment.

 

2. Assures that suitable relocation sites are available to the residential occupants to be displaced by project activities.

 

3. Assures that the residential, business, and nonprofit occupants to be displaced will receive relocation payments and assistance as prescribed by law.

 

and, therefore, the Amendment to the North 3rd Street - Garfield to North Avenue Redevelopment Project Relocation Plan is approved; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of City Development is directed to expeditiously and faithfully carry out the approved Amendment to the Relocation Plan upon approval by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
