Title

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the City Clerk to expend up to $10,000 from the Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account for the 2024 Back to School Festival, to be held on August 25, 2024.

Body

Whereas, On Sunday August 25, 2024, the City of Milwaukee celebrated the second annual Back to School Festival at Indigenous People’s Park; and

 

Whereas, The festival included a number of activities for children, including a bounce house, a bike raffle, a live DJ, as well as free food and haircuts and hair braiding for attendees; and

 

Whereas, The event offered resources for parents of children returning to school, including free book bags and school supplies, health screenings and opportunities to connect with the Milwaukee Health Department; and

 

Whereas, The event was presented by Alderman Chambers, Milwaukee Health Services, Walmart, The Office of African American Affairs, MPD District 7, Milwaukee Professional Firefighters local 215, and the City of Milwaukee. Sponsors include Kroger, Visit Milwaukee, Northwestern Mutual, Easy Rentals - Bounce Houses, Professional CDL Training, Milwaukee Bucks, Rooted MKE, Children’s Wisconsin, AT&T, Brewers Community Foundation, JK Liquor, MJ Construction, Khahra Petroleum Inc., Silver Spring Liquor Inc., Forest County Potawatomi, Peoples State Bank, Milwaukee County Parks and McDonald’s; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk is authorized to expend up to $10,000 from the 2024 Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account No. 0001-1310-S123-006300 to support the 2024 Back to School Festival.
