Title
Resolution confirming the City of Milwaukee will provide funding to complete its portion of the Powerline Trail Phase 2 and the Beerline Trail Access projects should the projects be awarded grant funding through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. This grant funding has a 50 percent grantor share and a 50 percent local share.
Analysis
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is soliciting applications for outdoor recreation grants. The Department of Public Works submitted a joint application with the City of Greenfield for funding for the Powerline Trail Phase 2 and an application for funding for the Beerline Trail Access project. Successful grant applications will be funded with a 50 percent grantor share and a 50 percent local share. The local share for the Powerline Trail Phase 2 application will be jointly funded by the City of Greenfield and the City of Milwaukee.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is soliciting project applications for funding for outdoor recreation grants; and
Whereas, Projects approved for these grants will be funded with a 50 percent grantor share and 50 percent local share; and
Whereas, The City of Greenfield is developing a trail along the WE Energies Corridor known as the Powerline; and
Whereas, The proposed Powerline trail will run through the City of Milwaukee from S. 60th St. to the City boundary east of S. 51st St.; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has submitted a joint application with the City of Greenfield for the Powerline Trail Phase 2 project; and
Whereas, The total estimated cost of the Powerline Trail Phase 2 project is no more than $500,000, with a grantor share of $250,000 and the City of Milwaukee’s local share of $120,000; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has submitted an application for the Beerline Trail Access project; and
Whereas, The total estimated cost of the Beerline Trail Access project is approximately $125,000, with a grantor share of $62,500; and
Whereas, A local resolution of support for the proposed projects must be executed and submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City of Milwaukee will budget a sum sufficient to complete the projects; and, be it
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee hereby authorizes the Department of Public Works to submit an application to the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for any financial aid that may be available for the Powerline Trail Phase 2 and Beerline Trail Access projects; and, be it
Further Resolved, That if successful, the grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements for funding planning, design, and construction.
