Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Gang Reduction Project Grant.
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a Gang Reduction Project Grant from the US Department of Justice, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $372,456, with a city share of $132,456 and a grantor share of $240,000. The purpose of the project is to provide equipment and overtime expenses to reduce gang violence in the Metcalfe, Amani, and Midtown neighborhoods by deterring youth from engaging in gang activity and enhancing the Department's gang investigation and intelligence capabilities.
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the US Department of Justice, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance for a Gang Reduction Project Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 05/01/05 to 09/30/06 would cost $372,456, of which $132,456 (36%) would be provided by the city and $240,000 (64%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2005 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: Gang Reduction Project Grant:
