Analysis

This resolution authorizes the City Engineer to accept a cash grant from Focus on Energy for the purpose of offsetting material costs of the installation of Light Emitting Diode traffic signal heads within the City of Milwaukee.

Body

Whereas, Focus on Energy is a public-private partnership in Wisconsin with the goal of encouraging energy efficiency through various programs; and

Whereas, One program of Focus on Energy is to provide municipalities with financial assistance for the installation of Light Emitting Diode (LED) signal heads to replace incandescent signal heads; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee currently is installing LED signal heads at numerous locations in the City and these grant monies will serve to reimburse the City for part of the LED material costs; and

Whereas, Focus on Energy provides $10.00 per LED vehicle indication and $5.00 per LED pedestrian indication not to exceed the City's expenditure; and

Whereas, The grant currently totals $166,460; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to accept a cash grant from Focus on Energy for the purpose of reimbursing material costs of LED traffic signal heads; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is hereby authorized to create within the Capital Improvement Fund, Grant and Aid Projects, the necessary Project/Grant Chartfield Values for the project (expenditure) and transfer to various accounts the amount required under this grant agreement and City Accounting policy but not to exceed a 10 percent increase of the total amounts reserved for the grantors share or $5,000, whichever is greater, as follows:
