Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City Clerk to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account for various events and initiatives in 2024.
Body
Whereas, The purpose of the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account is to provide resources to support community events that promote peace and violence prevention with the intention that allocations from the SPA will be matched by contributions from local organizations; and
Whereas, The MKE Business Now Entrepreneurship Summit is held to support the growth of local entrepreneurship and help innovators stimulate economic development, neighborhood reinvestment, and job creation; and
Whereas, The Common Council’s Black History Month celebration, “28 Days of Black History” includes a festive City Hall celebration filled with art, music, food, and speakers; and
Whereas, On September 19, 2023, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 230640, designating the Back to School Festival as an official City of Milwaukee event; and
Whereas, The Back to School Festival offers a variety of services and activities to help prepare students for a healthy start to the academic year and is a community event that is free of charge; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk is directed to expend up to $20,000 from the MKE Community Excellence Fund Special Purpose Account (0001 1310 S246 006300) in the following amounts for payment or reimbursement of expenses related to 2024 events:
MKE Business Summit Up to $ 1,600
Black History Month Up to $ 3,400
Back to School Festival
North Side Up to $10,000
South Side Up to $ 5,000
; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the amount paid or reimbursed from the MKE Community Excellence Fund for each event shall be matched by contributions from local organizations for that event.
