Title
Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a U.S. Department of Justice FY2026 COPS Technology and Equipment Program (Congressionally Directed Spending) grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a FY2026 COPS Technology and Equipment (Congressionally Directed Spending) grant from the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $1,031,000.00 with a City share of $0 and a grantor share of $1,031,000.00. The purpose of the grant is to support the City of Milwaukee Public Safety Radio System Upgrade Project.

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.710, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice to fund needed equipment for the joint public safety radio upgrade project; and
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 01/23/2026 to 01/31/2028 would cost $1,031,000.00, of which $0 would be provided by the City and $1,031,000.00 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is authorized to accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2026 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2026 COPS Technology and Equipment Program Grant:
