HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
|
Minutes note: Contractor Haley Hall of Modern Exterior presented a proposal replacing all exterior siding with new cedar siding to match the existing profile, including scalloped fish-scale shingles.
Staff Andrew Stern and the commission expressed concern that a wholesale removal of historic siding was unnecessary, as staff estimated only 20-25% of the boards actually needed replacement.
Haley Hall argued for full replacement to install Tyvek for better moisture protection, the commission countered that modern barriers could cause moisture buildup in old buildings designed to breathe.
The commission denied the full replacement request but noted that a certificate of appropriateness for selective replacement of damaged boards could be approved more quickly at the staff level.
