PURPOSE: To make recommendations to the Common Council on proposals received regarding the naming or renaming of public buildings, facilities and streets in the City of Milwaukee.
COMPOSITION: Seven members; all City residents; holding no other public office or public employment. All members are appointed by the Mayor, confirmed by the Common Council and serve three-year terms. The committee includes at least one recognized local historian, one representative of a local business association or chamber of commerce and one employee of a local nonprofit community organization. The Mayor designates the chair.
A member who is not an elected official continues to serve after the completion of his or her term until reappointed or until a successor has been appointed.
