PURPOSE: To govern the activities of the Wisconsin Center District, a special purpose governmental unit, created to finance, construct, own and operate an exposition center and related convention center facilities.
COMPOSITION: Fifteen members, five of whom are appointed to represent the City along with the the City Comptroller who serves ex officio . Of the City's representatives, two are appointed by the Mayor and must be employees or officers of a private sector entity. Three are appointed by the Common Council President and must be employees or officers of a public sector entity. These five representatives serve three-year terms.
Other members include: three members appointed by the Milwaukee County Executive (three-year terms); the Secretary of the State of Wisconsin - Department of Administration or a designee (three-year term); three members appointed by the Governor, one of whom must own or operate a business in the food and beverage industry (one-year term), one representing the lodging industry (one-year term) and a third representative to serve a three-year term. In addition, the two chairs of the Legislature's Joint Committee on Finance serve ex officio . They may name a designee. Appointments to this body do not require Common Council confirmation.
A member continues to serve after the completion of his or her term until reappointed or until a successor has been appointed.
