June 6, 2020 To Whom it May Concern: The East Side BID is grateful for the leadership of the Department of Public Works in creating the Active Streets for Businesses program recently passed by the Public Works Committee. We are writing because we would like for our main corridor of East North Avenue to take advantage of the program. The program requires a speed limit of 25mph or under for streets on which it may be implemented. East North Avenue, the main corridor in the East Side BID, currently has a speed limit of 30mph. We respectfully request that the speed limit be reduced to 25mph. While it would be ideal for this reduction in speed to be permanent, we request at least a temporary reduction in speed through November 15, the end of the Active Streets for Businesses program. If possible, we would also like to request a reduction of the speed limit on North Farwell Avenue, from Bradford to Windsor, from its current rate of 30mph to 25mph so businesses in that corridor may take advantage of the program as well. We feel that reducing speed on East North Avenue, from the River to Water Tower Hill, will benefit businesses and the consumers they serve by increasing safety and reducing noise for those who choose to dine outside. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the City to assist our businesses in safely expanding outdoor seating capacity as they reopen. Please let us know how we can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Jonathan Jackson President East Side BID #20 Board
