As a business owner, commercial building owner and resident of Milwaukee here's three reasons why I love the idea of this. 1) I have restored an historic building in the third ward and am in the process of starting to build a new modern building right next store at 220 E. Buffalo St. This practice of bringing old and new together has been prevalent in other progressive cities across the country and around the world. It helps create a better sense of time and place than simply maintaining 100 plus year old structures or knocking them down to make way for new. The opportunity for this project to provide ultra modern living accommodations for our expanding creative work force in Milwaukee coupled with the commitment to restore the beautiful Goll house is a rare opportunity indeed. 2) As an employer of over 70 creative class workers who are increasingly interested in city living options, it's imperative that our city can offer bold contemporary choices in proximity to our offices that still offer active lifestyle access. With a building like this coupled with the ease of street car transportation we can build a better case for exciting living options for our employees on the east side, in addition to the excitement building in downtown and the Bayview neighborhoods. 3) The scope and scale of this project will generate significant tax revenue for the city, an increase in business revenue for the restaurants and retailers on Farwell and Prospect avenues. We have great momentum beginning in Milwaukee in the quality of our restaurants and development of destination retail. It will take increased density of well paid professionals in order to keep that momentum growing. This project will fuel that growth. The bottom line is that after almost 40 years of living and/or working in the city of Milwaukee I've never been more excited about the opportunities we have here. We need to keep the development energy moving in that direction to make all of Milwaukee's neighborhoods world class and position us to compete with other booming middle market cities like Denver, Austin, Portland and even Kansas City. Congratulations on the vision! I hope that our alderman and planning folks can also see what a great opportunity that lies before us. With great excitment, Tim Dodge Tim Dodge CHIEF INNOVATION OFFICER Hanson Dodge Creative Inspire and transform.™ 414.270.8304 (O) 414.899.7741 (M) hansondodge.com http://www.linkedin.com/in/timdodge Follow us at: LinkedIn: http://bit.ly/HDCLinkedIn Facebook: http://bit.ly/HDCFacebook Twitter: http://bit.ly/HDCTwitter
