From: Bauman, Robert Sent: Friday, October 10, 2014 10:52 AM To: CC_ALL Subject: FW: Housing Stock Improvement Program Communication I received regarding the Housing Stock Improvement Program that the Mayor vetoed and will be up for an override vote on Tuesday. From: Patrick Greer [mailto:twopatrick@sbcglobal.net] Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2014 8:15 AM To: Bauman, Robert; Mayor Tom Barrett Subject: Housing Stock Improvement Program Mayor Barrett and Alderman Bauman I read some information this morning regarding your positions on a loan program called the Housing Stock Improvement Program. I'm a home owner in the inner city. My home is located in Alderman Bauman's district. I have lived on the same block in the city of Milwaukee for over fourty years. In fact during my lifetime I have lived in three homes on the same block. I have owned the home I live in for over twenty years. It would have been torn down if I did not purchase it back then. The home had been vacant for quite some time and was being vandalized. I've done some work on the home and earn what some would consider a good living (middle class by income standards). My biggest frustration is how much I feel taken advantage of as a middle class resident. I'm not eligible for many programs yet my tax dollars go to support them. I don't have an issue with helping the less fortunate. It took years to reach the place God blessed me to be at now. However costs continue to rise, my property value dropped, and still has not recovered yet my taxes increased. I have a family to support and a home that also needs work. Mr. Mayor I appreciate your desire to continue to help those at the low income level and have voted for you in the past in large part because of this but at some point you also need to realize the middle class is being pushed closer and closer towards poverty. Alderman Bauman has presented a bill that passed the Common Council 14- 1. Knowing how divided politics have been since the election of President Obama this is a good sign that at least in Milwaukee the Common Council understands the needs of the people in their districts. Alderman Bauman the midddle class in this city needs the Common Council to override the Mayor's veto on this bill. Lastly, as noted before I have voted for both of you in the past. Alderman Bauman you have been to my home a few times and used to live a few blocks away and still does unless you moved. I must say if things for the middle class in Milwaukee does not change soon after over fourty years as a resident I am leaving the city of Milwaukee with no plans to return. Continue to work on behalf of all those who elected you. Thanks
