I watched Northridge, Kohl's Food Store, Dunham's, Lee Wards, etc., etc., etc. come and go and unfortunately seen very little done to improve that area or bring new businesses there. (If more has been done, very little has been evident to the residents of the area.) There are so many empty buildings in that area of the 9th District (especially the Brown Deer Corridor) that would be suitable for this business and would help to improve this area that it seems to me to be ridiculous to construct a new building. Not to mention what it would do to Dretzka Park and the surrounding area. The Northridge/Granville Station area was fantastic 35-40 years ago, it was a beautiful area and it has gone down hill rapidly. All of these empty stores etc. do nothing to enhance the area. Is this what you want to do to the area of the proposed Sam's Club??? Well, that is exactly what will happen out there. Alderman Puente has pointed out to me that Sam's Club is owned by Walmart and would be in direct competition with the new Walmart on Brown Deer Rd. I totally and strongly disagree with him. Yes, they are owned by the same company, HOWEVER, in no way would the two stores be in competition with each other. That is pure and simple "hogwash", the two stores attract totally different types of customers. Therefore, the two stores would be servicing two different types of customers and in turn might attract new customers to either store. It seems downright stupid to me not to utilize an area that is already geared to these retail businesses and this type of traffic etc. rather then destroy the peace and tranquility of the Dretzka Park area. We NEED both types of communities for a happy medium. Why not improve the Brown Deer area first then go on to other areas. You wouldn't start a new project in your own home before finishing one you had already started, why would you do that in Milwaukee. Sounds to me like a perfect plan for failure all the way around. To make myself clear if I haven't already, I totally oppose the proposed Sam's club on 124th and Bradley, and I also oppose any rezoning of that area in order to accommodate the Sam's Club. I am: Owner and resident of a Woodlands condominium (44 years). Block Watch Co-Captain (approx. 15 years), former Woodlands Board Member (approx. 25 years), Crime Analysis meeting attendee and graduate of Citizens Academy. I have a lot of myself invested and care about what's best for this community!! Thank you for your time and consideration for all of us that oppose this Sam's Club!! Georgiana Guy
