Has anyone up there seen this yet and mentioned it? Thanks, Patty Patty Doherty Legislative Aide Alderman Donovan 8th District (414) 286-3533 -----Original Message----- From: SEAGER, DAVID JR. I know that you share the same shock and anger over this outrageous behavior subjecting ALL of us to years of turmoil. I have waited this week to allow for more details to unfold pertaining to the incident and, to say the least, am very disappointed in the lack of communication with everyone involved within a leadership capacity. It is very important that I outline and be very clear that blame is very easily cast and it rests mainly with Dyna Care Laboratories. However, I cannot reiterate enough the disappointment that I have, representing over 840 Fire Fighters, that the city itself is responsible for providing our personal Social Security numbers. Whatever mechanism was used to do so, no matter how secure one may think it had been, isn’t enough. Pension numbers and Payroll ID numbers certainly would have been more than sufficient. Even more troubling is that that information Everyone of us can “arm chair” quarterback the details and the logistics of how all of this has transpired but it doesn’t change the tsunami that we find ourselves. While the circumstances surrounding Dyna Care are horribly disastrous, it DOES NOT excuse the fact that our Social Security numbers were relinquished. This stems from the initiation and implementation of the Wellness Initiative several years ago. We were very apprehensive, to say the least, in participating in the Health Risk Assessment for this exact logic. While the HRA has been successful on many fronts both physically and financially, all of those successes have been washed by this egregious act. The trust between the workforce has been forever tarnished and quite frankly, LOST, as a result of being forced to participate in the HRA or pay a higher premium. Furthermore, the public comment that Dyna Care Laboratories would be providing protection for a year is nothing more than a billboard for those parties that have attained these sensitive materials to just “sit and wait” for that year to pass. Hence, after the year expires, 9,000 people are subject to this intrusion without continuing to purchase the identity protection. Even with the protection, it is cumbersome for all affected parties going forward having to prove over and over again in whatever circumstance that they are who they say they are. This is yet another concern for me and my membership and your city work force. Be it a home loan, car loan, college education etc etc, these relatively normal life events will now be more challenging. While the “one year” term is a start, it appears to me and all of my members that this is nothing more than a “get out of jail” free card. It is vital, not just to my membership, but to the ENTIRE city workforce, that the leadership of the city pursue LIFETIME protection via Dyna Care Laboratories. This is the very LEAST that they should provide. What’s even more insulting is that the “year of free service” through the three credit monitoring agencies is NOT the service that should be offered. The three credit monitoring agencies will “notify” the member when something is awry, it is ALREADY too late. Life Lock is the ONLY option that will notify the member prior to any identity theft has been transacted. In addition to offering this mechanism to the membership, Dyna Care should ALSO be responsible to the city workforce that, if indeed a member’s credit or identity has been stolen, to rectify and make any and all affected members whole. I have also attached a copy of the Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital’s “confidentiality” policy for your review. The contracted entity, in this case Dyna Care Laboratories, is in clear violation of this policy and should be held accountable. I have also attached a story from our Journal Sentinel newspaper from June of 2006. Froedtert Hospital is not foreign to circumstances very similar to what we are experiencing. In this story, a very small population was affected and they continue to have to deal with the uninvited intrusion into their lives. I have begun creating a file of my membership and have received multiple calls and incidents already in just 6 days of this announcement. Many of my members have ALREADY been compromised and fighting to restore their credit as I sit and type this informational. This has a tremendous untold ramifications to our entire workforce and I sincerely hope that arrangements can be made to help restore the “trust” that has been destroyed. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=jScqAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LUUEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5202%2C5268815 Respectively, David R.
