As a Downtown Milwaukee business owner, I whole-heartedly
support the new Downtown Hotel proposal. Jobs will not only be created by the
hotel in and of itself, but also by other businesses that will be drawn to this
block. The design looks wonderful and mixes well with its older neighbors. This
is a fine example of new and old architecture blending
beautifully.
As for the "historic" buildings currently occupying this
space: they won't be missed. These aren't exactly the Pabst building. Taking
these down will be no different than tearing down a strip mall 75 years from
now. The Marriott appears to have far more effort applied to the design. True
historic structures with architectural significance always get my vote to stay.
These "historic" buildings do not fit in this category. I bet the
designers back in the day would feel the same way (in their hearts at least).
Do the responsible thing for Milwaukee and favor the new
Marriott.
