Dear Chairman Bohl, I am a south side resident with 37 years experience working in private, public, contract, choice, charter and voucher schools. With the exception of MPS public schools there is a tendency to siphon the least needy students out of the population using informal and formal screening. The south side is already well served by excellent private and public schools. Mr. Ramirez has made generous offers to the public to use the physical ed. facilities at the proposed St. Augustine but when asked at a public meeting if he would sign a contract to that effect he said, "You will have to take my word for it." Large numbers of the St. Augustine Supporters are a group from private schools with strong monetary ties to Augustine Ramirez. Enabling a new public funded private school will siphon off between $100,000,000 and $200,000,000 from MPS in the next 10 years. THE NET RESULT WILL BE A BANKRUPT STUDENT GHETTO OF DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS ON THE NORTH SIDE LEADING TO A BANKRUPT CITY. For these reasons I ask you to vote no to zoning changes for the proposed St. Augustine school. Thank you for your service.
