Hello Alder Bauman:
I urge the Historic Preservation Commission to grant permanent historic designation to the one, 
century-old Columbia Hospital building owned by UWM that is of architectural 
significance.  This will allow time for a better solution than UWM's myopic plan to demolish the 
building.
UWM has owned the building for over 10 years.  Why is it in poor condition?  Is this purposeful 
neglect?  Reminds me of the tragic loss of the Coast Guard building on the Lakefront due to 
neglect by Milwaukee County.  
Hard to fathom that across the street from this Columbia building is the UWM School of 
Architecture & Urban Design.  Could they not help the community find a new purpose for this 
building even if UWM does not have the funds to do it alone?
I urge UWM to sell the building to a group, organization or company which will preserve & 
repurpose the building as a win for the entire community.
