Mr. Matz is withdrawing his application to nominate Summerfield Church.  Although he was sure he had the support of his church, some questions have arisen and it does not seem prudent to move forward at this time.

So this item should be removed from the May 13th agenda.

Hi Carlen,

Thanks so much for getting back with me. I think the least painful thing (although not for me) is to formally withdraw Summerfield's application for historic recognition Please confirm this as I will be instructing that no one should attend the hearing next week.

I would not have proceeded without permission. But I am learning that there are different understandings of the meaning.

Since cannot postpone, I see no other option at this point. So a withdrawal removes whatever perceived threat has apparently arisen.

I would still like for you and Paul to come speak to our Admin Council. However, if the application is withdrawn, as it must be before our meeting date, I feel your time would be wasted. A delay would at least offer leverage towards a thoughtful response. If the application is cancelled, it seems like no one will support starting up again. Therefore, I do not think it is practical for you to visit at this time, or until some dominate personalities of the council changes.

My next question is, would I still have access to your research findings? It would be one of my few constellation prizes in this matter, other than making a connection with you.

Thanks for your kindness and support in this matter. I hope in the future that things will be able to move forward for Summerfield again. Otherwise, I look forward to the chance of working with you on other historic preservation measures.

Warmest regards,

Hi Lee,

Our manager, the City Clerk, checked the Historic Preservation ordinance.  It states that the public hearing has to be held within 45 days of the date we considered your application complete.  We cannot postpone the hearing.  We used to do this but the new ordinance went into effect this year.

You have 2 options:

1) At the hearing you can request that the HPC postpone making their decision until the following month.  That means the HPC will take testimony, etc.  They may or may not honor your request.

2) OR-You can withdraw your application so that it is taken off next week’s agenda.  You could re-apply at a later date.

Please let me know what you want to do.  I apologize for giving you incorrect information yesterday about postponing.  I thought that was an option.  I am still willing to come and speak with your Administrative Council.  My co-worker Paul said he is willing to come as well.

Hi Carlen,

I just confirmed that our Administrative Council meeting will be Monday, May 20th at 6:30pm at Summerfield. I look forward to your attendence, and am grateful for your time and dedication. I have asked that you be put at the top of the agenda. You should know that after you speak and answer questions, it is my plan to put the matter to a definitive vote. Having more time could sway people and bring them around, perhaps. But my concern is that the matter will be delayed until it disappears from neglect. And I believe the council should be held accountable to future generations by recording the vote. Thanks so much.
