Subject: Great catch on the
bait and switch for the 27th and Wisconsin
site
Alderman
Bauman,
I just
wanted to compliment you on your diligence. I think it is leadership
like yours that keeps the downtown moving forward.
It
will of course not surprise you that I opposed the subsidized land sale for
creation of office space, but thought that this bait and switch approach by the
developer (who is a related party to the contracting firm doing the
construction) is typical of what happens just when you think you are doing a
good thing. We pride ourselves on delivering on our promises and
appreciate working with you in making sure that our promises are good for the
City.
I
wanted to take this opportunity to thank you.
I also
wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that there is a lot of existing
office space in your district that would gladly lease to the State of Wisconsin
for much less than this developer is planning on charging the state. Your
action here could permit the State to save thousands in tax payer dollars and
still fill empty space in your district. It is possible to
preserve existing buildings in your district and the City
without demolition by neglect. We have set out to prove that,
and are doing so. Your leadership could help another building fill its
space and save itself as well.
I want
you to know you have my full and public support and I would be more than happy
to talk with you further about this or any other important issue facing downtown
building owners.
