Subject: FW: City tax levy
question re; Malcolm X
Jim,
By now you should have also received the certification files
regarding this evening’s Board action to submit a revised request to the City to
sell the former Malcolm X property. Please let me know when you have
received the information. If there is any further information needed,
please contact me as soon as possible so that you have everything necessary for
your file. Also, please let me know when this item has been scheduled for
consideration so that I might share that with the Board.
Thank you for your time and help with this issue.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may provide any further assistance in
this matter.
Below I have the District’s response to the question posed to
you by Alderman Murphy: What
effect – if any – the alternative methods for funding the Malcolm X project
would have on your levy?
The sale of the Malcolm X campus will not impact the current tax
levy adopted by the Milwaukee Board of School Directors on October
29th.
Any enrollment change in the 2014-15 school year has the
potential to impact the FY15 tax levy. Any dramatic enrollment change in the
course of a school year is mitigated by the State’s use of a three year rolling
average which essentially softens the impact of year-to-year enrollment changes
for all school districts. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
calculated the current year allowable tax levy for Milwaukee using student
enrollment from September 2013, 2012 and 2011.
Sincerely,
Lynne
