Good morning. 7 THE APPLICANT: Good morning. 8 (Whereupon the applicant was sworn.) 9 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: State your name and 10 address for the record. 11 THE APPLICANT: Omar Shaikh. 13825 James 12 Street in Brookfield, Wisconsin. 13 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: And let the record 14 show Alderman Bauman appears in this matter also. 15 Health Department? 16 HEALTH DEPARTMENT: Health Department has no 17 objection. 18 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Neighborhood Services? 19 NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES: Hold for occupancy 20 permit. 21 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Omar, do you admit to 22 receiving notice in the mail there's a possibility 23 your application could be denied because of items 24 contained in the police report? 25 THE APPLICANT: Yes, sir. 00003 1 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Sergeant, could we 2 hear that report? 3 SERGEANT ULICKEY: In regards to the 4 applicant has nothing in the previous five years. 5 However, Mr. Thomas Wackman, who is listed as a 6 shareholder in the corporation, the following applies 7 to him. 8 On 11/10/02 at 718 North Milwaukee, Thomas 9 Wackman was issued a citation for patrons after hours. 10 He was found guilty and fined $376. 11 On 5/1/05 at 12:47 a.m., Milwaukee police 12 were dispatched to 718 North Milwaukee, Eve's Tavern, 13 for a battery complaint. Investigation revealed two 14 women were fighting and officers were able to view 15 this through a security camera tape. These women 16 were identified and they both received disorderly 17 conduct citations. Officers also found an underage 18 female in the bar, identified her, she was also -- 19 received a citation for presence of underage. The 20 licensee, Thomas Wackman, who was not on the scene at 21 the time also received a citation for presence of 22 underage. He was found guilty and fined $150. 23 On 9/27/05, Thomas Wackman was issued a 24 citation for noise nusance at the premises at 729 25 North Milwaukee for loud music. He was found guilty 00004 1 of that citation and fined $228. 2 On 10/28/05, Thomas Wackman was issued a 3 citation for noise nusance at Tangerine, 729 North 4 Milwaukee. He was found guilty and fined $228. 5 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Thank you. Any 6 questions about the police report? 7 THE APPLICANT: (Nods.) 8 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: No? So, you are 9 taking over of the former Eve's? 10 THE APPLICANT: Correct. 11 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Just speak into the 12 microphone. Tell us what you intend to do there? 13 THE APPLICANT: Well, I mean, we are not 14 denying any of the incident that happened prior on the 15 scene. We are transitioning and turning it into a 16 restaurant. So our hours will be much different. 17 Obviously, less noise complaints. 18 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: You'll get some free 19 advertising here. Tell us about your proposed 20 restaurant. 21 THE APPLICANT: It will be somewhat of a 22 new concept to Milwaukee. 23 CHAIRMAN: WITKOWIAK: Tell us about it. 24 THE APPLICANT: I guess I will say it will 25 be Asian infusion restaurant 00005 1 ALDERMAN WITKOWSKI: You need to speak up 2 a little bit toward the microphone. 3 THE APPLICANT: It will be an Asian 4 infusion restaurant, and an exiting concept. We were 5 able to pull a chef - - the top chef out of 6 Scottsdale. So, he moved here to Milwaukee and he has 7 a very interesting menu. 8 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Excellent. And if 9 this license is approved, when do you plan on opening? 10 THE APPLICANT: Hopefully, first quarter of 11 next year. 12 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Alderman Bauman? 13 ALDERMAN BAUMAN: Yes. Mr. Shaikh owns and 14 operates several excellent restaurants on Milwaukee 15 Street, including Carnevore, which I believe you'll 16 still have a interest in as this moves forward? 17 THE APPLICANT: Correct. 18 ALDERMAN BAUMAN: And his associates are 19 very professional, in my experience and they run some 20 very large venues, which have, from time to time, had 21 complaints from neighbors. They do appear to be 22 responsive to those complaints. So, I have no 23 objection. I think it will be an outstanding addition 24 to the City's restaurant scene. 25 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Are you going to be 00006 1 using the second floor also? 2 THE APPLICANT: That's correct. Yes. 3 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Any questions by 4 committee? 5 ALDERMAN BOHL: Move approval. 6 CHAIRMAN WITKOWIAK: Motion by Alderman 7 Bohl is to recommend approval despite items contained 8 in the police report.
