210639 01.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name “Ralph H. Metcalfe" to North 34th Street from North Avenue to Center Street in the 15th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Ms. Danell Cross said Metcalfe Park used to be part of the Sherman Park neighborhood, but now it has its own neighborhood and, like Ralph Metcalfe, residents are strong and determined about making changes. She and others have been doing work in the Metcalfe neighborhood since 2011. Member Benson mentioned that Mr. Metcalfe was a regular visitor. Ms. Cross said the organization had a diaper and winter coat drive/distribution on Saturday. They use these events to get contact information from local residents and ask participants if they wish to be notified of future events. A fire was set at the park by a youth who will be assisting in remediating the damage. They also gave out COVID relief packages. Damon Ellzey - aide to Ald. Stamper - he supports the application as the Metcalfe Park community neighborhood is one of the most active in his district. Mr. Yance Marti, Dept. of Public Works, noted that five signs will be required. Mr. Benson moved, seconded by Mr. O'Neill, for approval. There were no objections.

210731 02.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name “Corrine Miller" to North 24th Place from Hopkins Street to Concordia Avenue in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Brenda Miller, the granddaughter of Corrine Miller, said her grandmother worked with St. Vincent de Paul and other local agencies to assist local residents. She bought food and clothes for the community for over 40 years. She was well known in the community and the pastor's wife of Golden Rule Church of God in Christ and provided free day care, if a community member could not afford to pay. She offered food from her own table and her home to the homeless and those in need. She lived on North 24th Place, where the honorary street signs will be placed. Everyone called her "Granny" and took care of people both physically and spiritually. She worked closely with Jeanetta Robinson and she loved unconditionally. Mr. Yance Marti noted that the Dept. of Public Works has no objections and two signs will be needed. Mr. Harpole moved, seconded by Mr. Benson, for approval. There were no objections.
