Minutes note: Michael McQuellan wrote the application for nomination. The theater was constructed in 1927 by a man who specialized in movie theaters and was constructed as a movie palace. It has two minarets, both topped by onion domes and the building was built by a wealthy newspaper publisher and leased by a movie operator. The original blade sign has been removed and the marquee replaced in 1947. The building also has a wing and "Black Cat Alley" which has exterior art. There is office area above the theater.
Mr. Tim Askin's biggest issue is that the state wants the city to be listed as part-owner, but he is resisting. The request is because the marquee overhangs the sidewalk. There is a sidewalk vault and there is no city special privilege.
