| | | | 3. Update on Milwaukee Youth Council Priorities:
Youth Homelessness
Litter
Drunk Driving
Youth Incarceration
Minutes note: Members continue the discussion regarding youth incarceration.
They would like to hear the perspective of the Senator Lena Taylor and Judge Derek Mosley.
As part of their discussion regarding the cause of youth incarceration the following points were expressed:
lack of guidance, mentoring or the presence of the parents
lack of coping skills
peer pressure
lack of knowledge about the justice system
decision of "get out" or "stay out"
racism (other porblems, over polizing, red lining)
Mr. Owczarski mentioned that Milwaukee Youth Council could offer a report to the Common Council asking for some curse of action regarding Youth Incarceration.
Regarding reckless driving, impaired driving or operating under the influence (OUI), members also expressed some of the reason why youth drive recklessly: to try to be cool among their peers, to get somewhere faster, because driver education is too expensive, not accessible.

Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. In the event that a simultaneous meeting is occurring, no action other than information gathering will be taken at the simultaneous meeting.
