190633 01.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Rev. George Reynolds" to 21st Street from Clarke Street to Center Street in the 15th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: The current pastor, Sharon Lee, said that the reverend was a pastor for 33 years and his dedication to the Lord has been stellar. Paulita Payton-Murphy, the nominator, said the church has a monthly food pantry, a back-to-school event and is always trying to connect to the surrounding community and Pastor Reynolds has been able to adapt to the changing community. He sends daily encouraging text messages to the people of the church. If a specific family is in need, he spearheads activities to rally for the person. The church wants to honor him for all of his work. Mr. Harpole moved, seconded by Mr. O'Neill, for recommendation of the honorary street naming. There were no objections.

190795 02.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the honorary street name "Don Sykes" to North Avenue from 17th Street to 27th Street in the 15th Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Mildred Coby, Employ Milwaukee, and Mrs. Geri Sykes, the widow of Don Sykes, both present. Mrs. Sykes said she and Don moved to Milwaukee in 1967. Ms. Coby said Don Sykes was a proponent of anti-poverty efforts, both in Milwaukee and nationwide. Mr. Sykes was head of the Social Development Commission and he was instrumental in improving Ms. Coby's life and teaching her professionalism and affirming that her life had meaning. The Social Development Commisson is located at 17th and North and Employ Milwaukee is located at 27th and North. Mr. Sykes believed in not just getting a hand out, but in getting a hand up to earn a family-supporting wage. Mr. Sykes passed in 2017 and he loved what he did. Mr. Harpole moved for approval, seconded by Ms. Fix, for recommendation of the honorary street naming.. There were no objections.
