Minutes note: Appearing: Morgan Krhin - MHD Baily Murph - MHD Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Strategic Plan The City of Milwaukee Health Department in conjunction with many other partners are working to create a City-wide STI strategic plan as a means to reduce sexually transmitted diseases among the youth. MHD is working to form focus groups of young people to compile data in respect of transperancy, accessability, educational material, funding, social outlets and coordination of services in this area. The data will be used to create tools and resources to aid young people in making informed decisions about their sexual health.

   5. Alverno College 2019 Girls Summit.

Minutes note: Appearing: Jodi Eastberg - Executive Director, Center for Academic Excellence and Research Center for Women and Girls - Alverno College Ruth Lopez - Coordinator of Multicultural Programs and Latino Student Engagement - Alverno College Invited the youth council to participate in attending the 2019 Girls Summit at Alverno college, on March 23rd from 8:30am - 4:30pm. They asked the council to participate as host of a workshop panel focused on turning ideas into actions. Council was encouraged to view the Status of Girls in Wisconsin Report recently release, in response to the needs identifies in the report and also to have a chance for girls and community members to respond to the findings. After reviewing this report, guest asked council to attend and possibly participate as panelist for the summit.

   6. Introducing Youth Council Year.

Minutes note: New president and vice president exposed their ideas for this new term and encouraged their colleagues to really become involved with their peers with the intent to make an impact on the youth.

   7. Discussion of member engagement with Common Council Members towards the Earn & Learn Program.

Minutes note: The Department of City Development sent flyers to be distributed among Youth Council regarding 2019 Mayor Barrett's EARN & LEARN Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP). The SYIP provides youth with employment and life skills, and helps them meet educational, job readiness, and career exploration goals. SYIP serves high school juniors and seniors between the ages of 16-19 (must be 16 by June 1). All applicants must meet specific school attendance requirements to be considered for a position. SYIP is an 8-week program. Youth earn $8.75 an hour and work 20 hours a week. Youth are placed in city Departments. Applications available at: milwaukee.gov/syip
