They supported the park reconstruction in 2016 and are still active in this park, which is near their home and is over an acre in size. The Department of Public Works has no objections. 180465 13.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the play lot name "William Ira Gore Park" to 1970 West Olive St. (20th & Olive Play Area) in the 1st Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Former Mayor Marvin Pratt suggested to Mr. Gore's daughter, Cecilia, that the naming of this park would be a fitting way to honor her father, William Ira Gore. The Gore family lived in front of the tot lot and Mr. Gore helped maintain this park by picking up trash and his children also played in this park. He was one of a number of influential African Americans in the neighborhood and he stayed in the neighborhood even though he was able to move out. The Department of Public Works has no objections. Mr. Benson moved, seconded by Mr. McGivern, for approval. There were no objections.

180466 14.ResolutionSubstitute resolution assigning the play lot name "Ervin Killiebrew Court" to 1970 West Olive St. (Basketball Court) in the 1st Aldermanic District.

Minutes note: Jonathan Holt, the nominator, was an older mentor to Ervin Killiebrew, who grew up in the neighborhood and played basketball at this court morning, noon and night. Mr. Holt is sure that if Mr. Killiebrew had lived past his senior year in high school and not died at age 18, he would have returned to the neighborhood and served as a mentor to other youth, such as Mr. Holt currently does with picking up trash at the park, putting up nets, running a neighborhood tournament and planning on creating a resource center for area youth. The Department of Public Works has no objection. Mr. Benson moved, seconded by Ms. Fix, for approval. There were no objections.
