The City plans to submit a Tiger 2017 application for the 4th Street extension. The City should be in a stronger position than previously, having already allocated matching funds for the project.
Kiewit continues to coordinate with the City and WRTP Big Step and is on track to meet their 21% DBE and 40%RPP goals
Operations and Maintenance Contractor to begin meeting Contract obligations
After a thorough evaluation process and contract negotiation, Transdev has been selected to provide Operations and Maintenance services in a 6.5 year partnership (1.5 year pre-revenue service, 5 year revenue service) with the City of Milwaukee.
Transdev North America is a leader in the transportation industry and is the largest operator of streetcars in the United States. They operate and manage top quality, efficient, environmentally sustainable transportation networks that enhance people’s mobility and their quality of life. Every year from coast to coast, more than 400 million passengers travel with Transdev to work, study, shop or play.
Transdev has an impressive background in urban rail operations, and currently operates Streetcar systems in Cincinnati, Detroit and New Orleans.
The General Manager who will be running the Milwaukee Streetcar system for Transdev on behalf of the City is Darryll Simpson.
Darryll Simpson, Transdev, gave a presentation on the following items:
Senior professional with 30 years of progressive leadership in transit operations .
Managerial experience spanning several modes of transit services such as Commuter Rail, Fixed Route and Paratransit bus operations. (MTA-Metro North, Charlotte Area Transit System, Nassau Intercounty Express)
Previously worked on Streetcar projects in Atlanta and Detroit.
During the next 90 days, the Operations and Maintenance Contract will begin with Phase 1 of their Contract obligations
Development of all documentation required for Streetcar Operations. This includes creating:

* Standard Operating Procedures
* Operations Plans
* Maintenance Plans
* Safety Plans

Construction team has standing weekly meetings to meet with local stakeholders at local businesses along the route

Milwaukee Streetcar Team Member Spotlight
Jeff Smith
Jeff is a carpenter on the Milwaukee Streetcar and this is his first Milwaukee construction project. He commutes to work from Kenosha and looks forward to the summer festivals every year. Hunting and fishing are his favorite things to do, especially with his 12-week old lab Willow.
5 weekly “Snack Along the Track” lunch events have been held, inviting the community to join us for lunch and to support local businesses.
2 Streetcar socials held to date to help distribute project updates and information and to allow local business along the route to connect with the public. The next one will be held at the Public Market with details to be released soon
