Minutes note: Mr. Pérez had HACM’s 2017 summer interns introduced to the Commissioners by their supervisors. They spoke about the area of HACM they will be working in and their goals for the summer. Mr. Pérez discussed the following items and made note of particular areas of interest for the Board: • An article from the Housing Affairs Letter entitled “Spending Reprieve May Be Illusory” Mr. Pérez passed a program amongst the Commissioners from the Make Your Money Talk graduation that took place June 5th. There were 89 graduates looking to move their economic life forward. Some of the grants that fund the matching dollars for the program are ones that may not be funded in the upcoming budget, although the budget is still malleable. Mr. Pérez passed a postcard amongst the Commissioners that was mailed out to residents regarding some employment opportunities at HACM. Such postcards are sent out for solicitations, job openings and fairs, community events, etc., and are just one method of contacting residents. With all the activity at Westlawn, there are also case workers working with Westlawn residents to make sure they are aware of all opportunities. Mr. Pérez next mentioned the May 23rd announcement by the Milwaukee Bucks and Johnson Controls about the creation of a sports complex at Browning Elementary in Westlawn. Mr. Pérez thanked HACM’s Modernization & Development department for accelerating their plans for an almost million-gallon cistern to be installed beneath the space of the sports complex. The goal is to open the complex in early fall. Mr. Pérez asked Paul Williams to speak about a presentation made last week at Johnson Controls. It was about the Choice Neighborhood Initiative and was one of nine presentations by various community groups involved in the Johnson Controls Neighborhood Initiative, which focuses on the Westlawn, Havenwoods and Thurston Woods neighborhoods near their headquarters. The event afforded the opportunity to hear from and interact with many stakeholders from the area. Mr. Pérez reminded the Commissioners of the new date of the Annual Meeting, July 19th, 2017. It is expected that the meeting will take place around the Townhomes of Carver Park, HACM’s first tax credit development, which is coming out of its 15-year compliance period. Chair Wagner thanked HACM’s Willie Hines and Jim Eigenberger and all the staff who assisted in quickly gathering information requested of him by NAHRO regarding the Continuum of Care.
