   4. The Parenting Network - Invitation

Minutes note: Ms. Rochelle Fritsch, a Prevention Educator at The Parenting Network, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen parenting and prevent child abuse. She extended an invitation to having some members of the City of Milwaukee Youth Council visit a program The Parenting Network is currently holding called Strengthening Families 10-14. Program participants include parent/caregivers and their youth ages 10-14. Research shows that youth in this age group are in a transition phase that increases parental conflict and can lead to risky behaviors. Outcomes of the program are that parents better understand and are able to better communicate with their youth. Outcomes for youth are that: they can better empathize with parents/caregivers; they can identify stress and productive ways to handle it; and, that they have language and strategies to resist peer pressure. The last session of the Strengthening Families 10-14 program will be held on Wednesday, June 7th from 5:30p-8:00p at Good Shepherd Trinity Church located in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park area. Because of their leadership in our community and in our schools, we would like to invite 3 members of the Youth Council to attend this session to be on a panel that speaks to the youth program participants, and respond to their questions. Dinner will be served at 5:30p for all program participants, including Youth Council members. Members would be on the panel for a youth-only session from 6:00p – 7:00p. The Parenting Network is extending the invitation to only 3 MYC members, because the group of youth we’ll have is relatively small (6 kids). Members are to confirm their attendance by Friday, May 12.
