     5. Old Business

Minutes note: a. MAB Annual Awards Ms. Svetic provided a critical update regarding the Artist of the Year honorarium fund. The account currently holds just under $1,400, which is insufficient for the $3,000 required for the 2027 award. The fund has historically been supported by a memorial for former board member Jim Chisholm, board members donating their travel stipends, and City of Milwaukee employee paycheck contributions through the UPAF campaign. Administrative staff noted that while there was a recent increase in city employee donations, it is not enough to bridge the gap for upcoming awards. The board discussed several fundraising ideas, including adding a digital payment button to the website, creating sponsorship levels, and hosting a roundtable or lecture series featuring past Artists of the Year at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Member O'Neil suggested using previous award winners as a resource for a live event or exhibition to raise visibility and funds, though she cautioned against asking artists to donate work for a silent auction without compensation. Member Mueller offered to reach out to potential donors once the staff provides the necessary "ask" language and technical details on how to process donations. b. Public Artist in Residence (PAIR) Program Update Sarah Gail Luther, the current Public Artist in Residence, and Paul Druecke, the PAIR liaison, presented an update on the program’s second iteration, which officially launched on July 1. The project is currently in a research phase, focusing on the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) and the theme of safe and survivable housing. Sarah shared diagrams mapping out the MFD's flow, noting there are five to six firehouses per battalion across the city. The project is structured into four phases: research, planning with community collaborators, outreach and input, and the creation of a permanent public art piece. Paul Druecke emphasized that his role involves real-time evaluation and storytelling to help the public understand the program’s impact. He encouraged board members to attend upcoming PAIR events to show support and provide input on potential neighborhood collaborators.
