Title

Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a Request for Proposal to select a consultant to provide professional engineering services for the rehabilitation of the St. Paul Avenue Lift Bridge over the Milwaukee River.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a Request for Proposal to solicit professional engineering services for the rehabilitation of the St. Paul Avenue Lift Bridge over the Milwaukee River.  This resolution also authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works and the City Comptroller to execute a contract with the selected qualified consultant for the professional engineering services.  The estimated total design engineering services for the project is $1,000,000 and the estimated construction cost is $8,500,000. Construction funds for this project will be included in a future resolution.

Body

Whereas, The Common Council of the City of Milwaukee through adoption of Common Council Resolution Number 100839 authorized funds estimated at $1,000,000 for professional engineering services for rehabilitation of the St. Paul Avenue Lift Bridge over the Milwaukee River; and

Whereas, The St. Paul Avenue Lift Bridge is in need of rehabilitation to repair the structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to provide safe and dependable operation; and

Whereas, It is deemed desirable to engage the services of a consultant to provide professional engineering services to prepare plans and specifications for the rehabilitation; and

Whereas, The bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled for construction starting in 2013 and continuing through 2014; and

Whereas, Funds for the construction phase of the project will be included in a future resolution; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is herby authorized to issue a Request for Proposal to select a consultant to provide profession engineering services for the rehabilitation of the St. Paul Avenue Lift Bridge over the Milwaukee River; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of Public Works and the City Comptroller are authorized to execute a contract with the selected qualified consultant for the professional engineering services.
