Analysis
This ordinance further implements the recommendations of the Private Alarm Systems Task Force and clarifies the permit process for low-voltage electrical installations and the scope of low-voltage licensing.

Common council file number 101025 was passed on April 12, 2011, implementing the final recommendations of the Private Alarm Systems Task Force reported in common council file Number 091421. Common council file number 101025, in part, established 3 new categories for contractors installing low-voltage electrical systems.

These 3 new licenses are: Type LB low-voltage (100 volts or less) for burglar and security alarms; Type LF low-voltage (100 volts or less) for fire alarm systems; and, Type LV low-voltage (100 volts or less) for all other low-voltage installations.

This ordinance provides for issuance of electrical installation permits for each low-voltage installation by a licensed contractor. The minimum permit fees for electrical installations provided in s. 200-33-11-r remain the same for these new permit categories: $65 for installations and repairs in one and 2-family dwellings and $75 for installations and repairs in other than one and 2-family dwellings.

The ordinance also corrects references made inadvertently to LV low-voltage licenses which are not intended to apply to burglar or security alarm installations.
