Analysis
This resolution adopts a generative artificial intelligence (AI) policy for the City of Milwaukee. This policy aims to promote responsible and ethical usage of AI technology by providing guidelines and principles for its proper and secure application.
Body
Whereas, The City recognizes the transformative potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology in enhancing efficiency, innovation, and service delivery; and
Whereas, The use of generative AI in City operations must align with principles of privacy, accuracy, transparency, equity, accountability, and compliance with existing City standards and regulations; and
Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources; and
Whereas, On September 5, 2024, the City Information Management Committee approved the creation of the City’s generative AI policy; and
Whereas, The generative AI policy establishes a framework for the ethical and responsible use of generative AI technology and outlines key principles to guide City staff, contractor, and authorized personnel use of such tools; and
Whereas, The generative AI policy references additional guidelines and processes for acquisition, implementation, risk assessment, and usage reporting to ensure proper oversight and governance; and
Whereas, The adoption of this policy will promote consistency, transparency, and accountability in the use of generative AI across City operations, safeguard sensitive information, and mitigate potential risks; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a generative AI policy, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy.
