Title
Resolution establishing a Community Engagement fund and authorizing contributions and expenditures from it.
Analysis
This resolution establishes a Community Engagement fund within the Milwaukee Police Department. Expenditures will be directed by Milwaukee Police Department Command Staff for the purpose of strengthening the relationship with the community and Milwaukee Police Department and building legitimacy and trust.
Body
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Code of Ordinances provides for the establishment of contribution funds; and
Whereas, community engagement is part of the mission of the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee Police Department receives donations to assist in community and youth engagement efforts; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Police Departments seeks an avenue to be able to accept donations and allow for transparency of receipt and expenditure of the funds; now therefore be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Community Engagement fund is created in the Milwaukee Police Department; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept donations to the fund in a not to exceed amount of $48,000; and, be it
Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is directed to establish a special account within the budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the General Fund Contribution Appropriation Control account, number 0001-2110-006300-D001, and the Estimated Revenue account for contributions, number 001-2100-009850, to the Milwaukee Police Department Contribution Account 0001-3310-006300-0001-DXXX, titled “Contributions - Community Engagement”, and Estimated Revenue account 0001-3310-009850 for the purposes set forth in this res...
