Analysis

This resolution directs the Board of Zoning Appeals to prepare annual reports on BOZA applications by type, location and result, and to present those reports to the Common Council.

Whereas, Amendment 45 placed a footnote in the Budget stating, “The Board of Zoning Appeals shall report annually to the Common Council regarding BOZA applications by

type, location and result”; and

Whereas, The Board of Zoning Appeals (BOZ) typically receives, processes and hears 500-700 applications for special use permits, variances (dimensional and use) and operator changes each year; and

Whereas, The Common Council seeks a better understanding of the distribution of BOZA applications both geographically and by type of request, as well as the results of these applications (time required to process and decide on requests, approval rates, etc.); and

Whereas, Currently, there is no systematic reporting of BOZA activities to the Common Council; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Board of Zoning Appeals is directed to prepare annual reports on BOZA applications by type, location and result; and, be it
