Analysis
This motion approves the renewal of a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for another 5-year term beginning with the 2023-2024 school year and ending with the 2027-2028 school year, as recommended by the Charter School Review Committee.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee, acting by its Common Council, is authorized under s. 118.40 (2r), Wis. Stats., to establish and monitor the operation of charter schools; and
Whereas, The Common Council has empowered the Charter School Review Committee to make recommendations to the Council regarding charter schools; and
Whereas, The Common Council, through Common Council File Number 981283, adopted on January 19, 1999, entered into a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for a 5-year term commencing with the 1999-2000 school year and ending with the 2004-2005 school year; and
Whereas, The Common Council, through Common Council File Number 021366, adopted on January 22, 2003, renewed a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool a 5-year term commencing with the 2003-2004 school year and ending with the 2007-2008 school year; and
Whereas, The Common Council, through Common Council File Number 071155, adopted on February 26, 2008, entered into a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for a 5-year term commencing with the 2008-2009 school year and ending with the 2012-2013 school year; and
Whereas, The Common Council, through Common Council File Number 120821, adopted on November 27, 2012, entered into a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for a 5-year term commencing with the 2013-2014 school year and ending with the 2017-2018 school year; and
Whereas, The Common Council, through Common Council File Number 171159, adopted on December 19, 2017, entered into a charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for a 5-year term commencing with the 2018-2019 school year and ending with the 2022-2023 school year; and
Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee, at its meeting of October 17, 2022, voted unanimously to recommend to the Common Council that the charter school contract between Central City Cyberschool and the City be renewed for an additional 5-year term; now, therefore
It is moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the Charter School Review Committee's recommendation to renew the charter school contract with Central City Cyberschool for another 5-year term beginning with the 2023-2024 school year and ending with the 2027-2028 school year.
